GENERAL REGULATIONS

The timetable for courses is based on a semester system with the first semester begining in June/July and the second semester in Dec./Jan. A midyear break of at least two weeks seperates the two.

INTECH follows the case method of imparting professional education backed by classroom lectures, industry visits, extensive field research, seminars, group exercises, role plays and discussions. Students are exposed to a large number of analytical and decision making perspectives. Most courses demand active student participation and students are expected to play an effective role in the design and modification of courses.

Students attend three or four lectures or class room sessions Monday to Saturday. Classes can last from one to four hours. Each Faculty will have his/her own teaching and assessment methods. At Intech subjects are taught as mix of lectures, turorials or seminars and always require additional individual work outside class hours, often in workshops, laboratories or libraries. Students need to be self-directed and highly motivated in their study skills.

In general, however, the Academic system operates in the following ways :

Students are encouraged to participate actively in class. This may require the answering of questions, putting forward of original ideas, or presenting a class paper.
The relationship between students and staff is informal and relaxed. Students should not hesitate to ask staff for assistance, particularly when the students has not understood something that has been said.
The use of other thoughts and writings is encouraged the students are expected to acknowledge the original sources, and use them as a basis to develop their own ideas.
Most teachers prefer that essays and assignments be hand written, rather than typed. Students are encouraged to use the computers on campus for voluminous writing and Major Projects.
Methods of assessing students vary from course to course. The system of a university examination is still employed, each semester but in most subjects, final assessment includes assignments, tutorials and practical work. In each unit the method of assessment is set out at the beginning of the semester.
Lecturers and tutors are usually willing to discuss in class or individually, any problem students mya have in understanding lectures and discussions, writing assignments or preparing for examinations.
